TREATMENT FOR PREGNANCY PAIN IN NEWBURY AND THATCHAM

SPD/PGP OR BACK PAIN DURING PREGNANCY?

Persistent back or pelvic pain either in the low back or in the front of the pelvis is extremely common.  Many pregnant women also suffer from upper back pain, neck pain and headaches – this can be as a result of changing posture.

However, some women also find that they cannot take the painkillers that they would have normally take to treat these problems. Chiropractic care can help with the treatment of neck and back pain and headaches that are as of a result of problems with the muscles and joints in these areas.

WHAT CAUSES BACK PAIN IN PREGNANCY?

During pregnancy a woman’s body undergoes a lot of changes. Some of these changes can cause aches and pains in the spine and pelvis which can lead to back pain in pregnancy.

Some of the muscle and joint pain experienced in pregnancy is due to the changing posture that takes place as a result of the growing baby. As the ‘bump’ gets larger you will notice a change in posture from standing straight to leaning backwards.

This puts increased pressure on the joints in the spine which can lead to pain in the low back and pelvis. Chiropractic care can help to make sure the joints and muscles in the low back and pelvis are moving and functioning at their best.

WHAT'S INVOLVED IN CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT OF PREGNANCY BACK PAIN?

Chiropractic care involves adjustments to the spine and joints of the body as well as soft tissue therapy to the surrounding muscles. It is safe to have chiropractic care throughout your pregnancy.

During your first appointment you will discuss your pregnancy, the problem you are looking for help with and your past medical history.

A thorough assessment of your spine and pelvis is then carried out.

The results of these tests will be explained to you and your chiropractor will create your individual treatment plan with advice and exercises so you get the best results from your care at Total Chiropractic.

DOES BACK PAIN STOP AFTER I'VE HAD THE BABY?

The majority of pregnancy related back pain can stop once the baby is born. But not all pregnancy related pain ends.

Unfortunately, a lot of the tasks involved in caring for a new-born baby such as lifting and carrying the baby, the car seats, pushchairs, the nappy bag can put a toll on the back.

If you are still suffering from pain after you have had the baby it is best to have the problem assessed so we can help you get pain free and moving well as soon as possible.
