TREATMENT FOR GOLFERS AND TENNIS ELBOW IN NEWBURY AND THATCHAM

WHAT CAUSES GOLFERS OR TENNIS ELBOW?

Golfers or tennis elbow are both caused by inflammation and irritation of the epicondyle of the elbow. Often caused by repeated damage or stress to the elbow by playing sports such as golf or tennis.

What is the difference  between golfers and tennis elbow?

The only difference between them is which side of your elbow hurts.

If the inside of your elbow hurts, it is golfer's elbow.

If the outside of your elbow hurts, it is tennis elbow.

But what if I don't play golf or tennis?

Golfers and tennis elbow are layman's terms for this condition - the 'proper' term is epicondylitis and you can have that without playing golf or tennis.

We tend to see epicondylitis in gardeners - particulary if they have spent alot of time pruning or hedge cutting.

CAN I HELP MYSELF OR DO I NEED PROFESSIONAL CARE?

This really depends on how much pain you are in and how long you have had the problem. If you're in severe pain then you should seek advice quickly. We also suggest if you have had the problem for more than three weeks you should get your elbow pain assessed.

If you've tried self help advice and your elbow isn't getting better, now is a good time to consult a professional.

Our chiropractors, Rosie and Sam have experience in treating patients with elbow pain and will be happy to answer any questions before you book an appointment.
